North London Townhouse

North London Townhouse

Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen believe that a dose of humour is the secret ingredient to capturing both beauty and charm in design. This philosophy came vividly to life in their transformation of a home just off Regent’s Park.

“I have never had a client reaction quite like the one I received for this project,” reflects Philip Vergeylen, interior designer and co-principal of the London-based studio Paolo Moschino.

Philip and his team transformed a pretty soulless decor scheme into a space you’d want to relax into.

What once had, in Philip’s words, “the look and feel of a German clinic—grey, chrome, and harsh downlights” is now a hushed haven that mirrors its leafy Regent’s Park setting. Behind the calm palette of whites, creams, and caramels lies a playful wit, woven into every room. “I always like to include something unexpected that brings a smile,” he says.
True to the Paolo Moschino approach, the magic is in the contrasts: a modern kitchen anchored by an antique pot, a book-filled reading room punctuated with a leopard-print rug, or a Picasso perched on an 18th-century commode. “If you play with objects from different times and still create harmony, that’s when a house feels like a home,” Philip explains.

Architectural details were added to enhance the warmth—plasterwork, coving, architraves—alongside carefully chosen neutrals like his go-to paint, Not Totally White. Outdoors, what was once bricked over became a tranquil garden retreat, complete with fountains for quiet reading.
Relaxation, above all, defines the house: rationalized layouts, a double drawing room, snug-like libraries, and loungy sitting rooms—spaces designed simply to unwind.
