The Art of Craftsmanship

Exclusively available in New York and through our showroom in London, these butter-soft, light-as-a-feather loafers have been hand-made to the same design for the last 50 years by a small family company based in Belgium. Over the years these shoes have developed a dedicated following from those who have become addicted to the glove like fit and flexible leather soles that make the Belgian Shoes the ultimate in comfort and luxury.

Belgian Shoes come in both ladies and men’s sizes in narrow, medium, and wide fit and are available in a wide variety of colours in leather, embossed leather, wool, velvet and beautiful linens especially for the summer.

1. Cutting the leather

Every pair of Belgian Shoes is made from the finest calves leather which is carefully hand-cut and measured in the Belgian Shoes factory in Izegem.

2. Hand stitching the leather

Every pair of Belgian Shoes is expertly hand-stitched together, inside out. Their indisputable comfort, is achieved through their simple, hand-finished construction.

3. Sewing on calves leather sole

The signature calfskin leather sole is stitched to the leather uppers inside out.

4. Sewing on the piping

The contrast piping detail of a Belgian Shoes is almost as iconic as the bow. Calfskin leather piping is constructed first on a sewing machine and then hand-stitched onto the shoe.

5. Felt for the heels

A light filling of “piano hair” (similar to the felt that dampens piano keys) is sewn into the soles of each pair of Belgian Shoes.

6. Ready to be turned

Once fully constructed, the hand-stitched shoes are ready to be ‘turned’.

7. Ready for the iconic bows

Now turned, the shoes are ready for the iconic Belgian Shoes bow. Each shoe has a bow, placed near the top of the vamp, and is tied by the only Belgian woman who is qualified to do so!

8. Belgian Shoes on their molds

The factory in Izegem houses a vast array of wooden shoe lasts. Narrow, medium and wide fitting and half sizes are all catered for. Once turned the shoes are stretched and cured on the wooden shoe lasts.
